Artisans du bronze de JavaThe Bronze-Iron age reached Indonesia in the third and second century BC, coming from the Dongson culture (today northern Vietnam). Bronze / Brass is a high grade copper-tin alloy.
All the bronze objects are hand crafted by the families in the villages of eastern Java.
They work using the old system of wax and sand casting, used for centuries in Asia.
Many bronzes are reproducing statues and heads of Budhas from Borobodur temple (750-850 AC).
Many are also domestic animals as horses, elephants or mythical animals as the Sea horse.
Most of the bronzes are silver plated or oxidised with a brown colour. | |
