Marionnettistes de BirmanieTraditional puppet shows constitute an important part of Burmese people way of life. They can last all night long and are presented even in the smallest villages. The main themes are Buddhist or Yamasat legends and are mostly inspired from the Indian Ramayana tale.
Between each act, traditional puppet dances are played mainly with the Immortal Alchemist, the Garuda and Horse characters. The main characters of the puppe show are the Prince, the Princess, the Prime Minister, the Alchemist, the Nat (kind spirit present in the Burmese mythology) and the Natami (female kind spirit).Brahma and animals like horse also take place in the show, accompanied by the legendary Garuda, the flying Elephant and Unicorn.
The traditional puppets are dressed with cotton clothes or with richly golden and pearls embroidered costumes.
All the puppets are hand made in Mandalay, the second biggest town of Myanmar (ex Burma). |  |
