Figurine de la collection "Empire" des Etains du Prince.Marshals, Generals, officers and soldiers are brought together in a collection rich of almost 300 pewter figurines. The average size of the figurines is 12,5cm. With the origin, the flag was only one rallying sign for a company, even a regiment.
Thereafter, it became national emblem, symbolizing an entire country. The vexillology is a very old and very complex science, it comes from the Roman armies which used to put at the head of their columns flags, called vexilla for the units of cavalry and aquilae for the legions of infantry, the labarum being reserved to the Emperor.
Other older people identified their troops by fabrics of color, more or less complicated or bronze statuettes fixed at the end of a lance. But in Latin culture, where we drew our military science, we have seen flowering during history a multitude of emblems civilian as well as religious, corporative or martial.
The figurine
From a technical point of view, the realization of a new subject requires much research in order to gather an important documentation. Once done, the sculptor works out a subject in modelling clay which requires for this scale an infinite delicacy and a rigorous detail.
After many operations one finally obtains the rubber mould which will receive pewter in fusion. Manual sandpapering, sanding, chiselling will give to the figurine thus born, its unequalled patina which gives this so particular charm to creations of Etains du Prince.
