Jaitip invokes the presence of Hanuman, the brave monkey king from the Ramakien. Based on the legendary Ramayana, the Thai epic story portrays Hanuman as a brave hero at Phra Rama's service. Hanuman is the reincarnation of the Wind God's son, who fights and kills Tosakanth's son, Indrachit, and burns Longka, the city of the demons. Jaitip crafts by hand this admirable theater puppet, carefully detailing his resin face with paints and rich ornamentation including Czech crystals. Hanuman's hands are carved of rubber wood, while bamboo sticks guide the puppet's movements.
Inspired by the Ramayana, Thailand's King Rama I wrote the Ramakien in 1797. Though there are similarities between the two epic stories, the Ramakien takes place in Thailand and is composed of five books, whereas the Ramayana contains seven. The characters may bear certain similarities, but there are also distinct themes that render each story unique.
Includes a storage box covered in saa paper.
