Ceremonial Hachas like this one were used at the ritual ball game as markers to keep the score. The outline of the axe shows the shape of a human skull with the forehead intentionally deformed to express intelligence. The more dominant decorative element of a graceful deer, can be discerned more easily in this figure.
These Hachas may be seen as awards for achievements.
