The Cutty Sark was built in Scotland in 1869. This three masts boat of 65 m (clipperA clipper (word possibly used in evocation of the boat splitting the floods) is a boat meant to be as fast as possible to carry its perishable goods. Clippers were three-masted ships with square sails on the foresail and the grand' mast but a fore-and-aft sail on the mizzen (Source: wikipedia).) was designed to compete with the Thermopylae in the annual race of the trade of tea between China and England, which lasted more than 115 days.
Fine and fast sailing ship, the Cutty Sark was credited with the record of speed on sail in one day, with 360 nauticals mile (approximately 650 km, are a maintained speed of 27 km/h whereas the speed of the clippers, considered very fast for the time, was more often close to 9 nodes, that is to say 17 km/h).
The clippers were relegated among beautiful inventions of the past by the steamers. The Cutty Sark is now displayed in Greenwich.. The model
This model is produced by hand by Vietnamese craftsmen starting from hard exotic wood. The hull is built in broadsides on couples (boards fixed on the reinforcement). The level of detail is excellent, and finishing is superb. This model of boat is not in kit, but is directly ready to be admired.
