From the Thirties, many American models of runabouts were launched, in particular by the Chris Craft company, whose name became synonymous with pleasure of sailing. All these motor boats, Triple Cockpit Barrel Back, Barrel back, Runabout, Capri, Cobra were characterized by their racé look, their finishing in varnished mahogany tree or exotic wood , their luxurious lathed bridge and leather seats and their powerful motorization. They are as legendary today as the Italian runabouts of the Sixties.
This superb runabout was drawn by Bruce Crandall and was used in the Thirties. The goal of Bruce Crandall was to render the Flyer very easy to control, even in rough waters. It was a boat designed for speed, a racer, and this Flyer, of class 135 (i.e. 135 cubic inches of cubic capacity, that is to say 2212 cm3 maximum, a good 2 liters, and at least 13.5 feet -4 m length and 4 feet broad), had the major part of its weight on the front of the boat. The Flyer was very short, 4.5m only.
The model
This model is produced by hand by Vietnamese craftsmen starting from hard exotic wood. The hull is built in broadsides on couples (boards fixed on the reinforcement). The level of detail is excellent, and finishing is superb. This model of boat is not in kit, but is directly ready to be admired.
