The sailing ships of J-class have a length of water line ranging between 23.15 and 26.5 meters, a maximum overall length of 36.6 meters, and a mast of 50 meters maximum. The J-class was defined in 1920 to avoid the race to gigantism of challengers of the America Cup.

Shamrock V was one of the competitors of the America Cup, built in 1930 after plans by architect Charles Nicholson, for the account of Sir Thomas Lipton. It is a J-class ship. A fast ship, Shamrock V lost however during finals of the 15th America Cup, won by the Enterprise defending the American colors.

The model

This model is produced by hand by Vietnamese craftsmen starting from hard exotic wood. The hull is built in broadsides on couples (boards fixed on the reinforcement). The level of detail is excellent, and finishing is superb. This model of boat is not in kit, but is directly ready to be admired.
