The Penduick ("black head" in Briton, of the color of the sailing ship), thus named since 1935, is a cutter drawn in 1898 by William Fife, famous naval architect, and built in Ireland under the name of Yum. With an overall length of 15.1 m and 10 m to the floating for 2.9 m of maximum width, it supports 160 m2 of sails.
Since 1938, Eric Tabarly sailed on the Penduick bought by his father. The Penduick was restored a first time in 1958, to reinforce the hull by a thickness of polyester, then was rebuilt completely between 1983 and 1989. She remains one of the most beautiful classical sailing ships.
The model
This model of boat is of museum quality. It is manufactured by hand by Malagasy craftsmen under the direction of Herve Scrive. For an optimal fidelity to the model, the construction of the ship model uses the process of assembly of broadsides on couples (the boards forming the hull are fixed on the couples forming the internal frame of the ship). The bridge of the boat is lathed as on a full scale boat. The hull and the bridge are varnished in several layers. The vessel is made out of exotic wood chosen for their qualities in model making and for their colors.
Each ship model is numbered and accompanied by a historical summary engraved on wood.
This model of boat, assembled by hand during tens or of hundreds of hours of craftmen specialized in hulls manufacturing, rigging, installation of veils etc, is not a kit, but is fully assembled and ready to be admired.
