A frigateThe frigates appeared in the XVIth century, during the golden age of galleons; they were then small and fast warships, with an uncovered deck and slightly armed.(Source: wikipedia) of 53 m drawn by Joshua Humphreys, built by the shipyards of Boston, and launched in 1797 among the first 6 ships intended to serve the just independent USA . The USS Constitution was armed with 38 (or 52 according to sources) guns.
With her 13 nodes speed (20 km/h in the wind), the Constitution fought under the American colors, initially against the French corsairs in 1798, then against the pirates in 1803, then against the English in the war of 1812-1815.

This warship was called ' Old Ironside' because of its very solid hull. Restored initially in 1815, then in 1833, then in 1871, again in 1906 in finally in 1930, the Constitution is moored today in Boston. She is the oldest American sailing ship still afloat.
