The sailing ships of J-class have a length of water line ranging between 23.15 and 26.5 meters, a maximum overall length of 36.6 meters, and a mast of 50 meters maximum. The J-class was defined in 1920 to avoid the race to gigantism of challengers of the America Cup.
The J-class Velsheda dates back to 1933, in the middle of the great economic crisis. Its architect was Charles Nicholson. Its hull is made out of steel. It did not take part in America' S Cup of 1934 for which it had been drawn, but took part in British regattas that it often won in 1933 (20 victories out of 43 regattas). Since 1934, the Endeavour and its definitely better performances completely modified the competition conditions between large J-class ships.
Velsheda (named after the beginning letters of the first names of the three girls of Nicholson, Velma, Sheila, Daphnie) is one of few J-class ships still intact.
This model is delivered assembled and ready to display.
