The Amerigo Vespucci is a superb three masts, built in 1931 in Naples in Italy, property of the naval Academy of Livorno. This training ship with a steel hull is long of 101m, for 3000 m2 of maximum sails. It takes a crew of 400 sailors on each trip. Its name is that of Amerigo Vespucci, whose first name, feminized in America was used by the cartographer Waldseemuller on a chart of the world of 1506 to indicate the few Western islands recently discovered by Christophe Colomb, and re-explored by Vespucci according to his disputed writings.
