As Tiki was the first born, first man created and ´Hei´ is ´to hang´, Heitikis were passed on through generations to people known for their knowledge, loyalty and clear thinking. It was believed that each ancestor who wore it, added something to its value. It is regarded as a good luck charm and many elderly Maori wear Tikis. Also believed to be a fertile figure so women wishing to get pregnant wear them as well.

The Simbolica Maori collection pieces were made by artisans in New Zealand and are based on the old symbolism from Maori Culture. Most statues and pendants were carved from Nephrite Jade although you will also find some pendants made of bone.
